That's Not Fair!

Matthew 20:1-16

In this parable, Jesus illustrates that the Kingdom of God does not operate on the same philisophical plain as does the world. Human reasoning looks at the issue of fairness in far different terms than does the Father by whom we ought to measure things. Jesus spoke this parable in such a way as to expect the listener (reader) to identify with the laborers who bore the heat of the day but were paid no more than those who entered the work in the last hours. He is gracious beyond measure and that is the focus rather than the "just deserts" of those who worked the whole day.
